Maybe the back yard slopes too much to use, the lawn turns to mud every wet season, or the place just looks unfinished. Gunalda sits inside the area we work, so if your property is here, you’re on the right page. This is residential and commercial landscaping — ground shaped, held, drained and planted so the outside of the property actually gets used.

Do we come to Gunalda? Yes — we service Gunalda, homes and businesses alike.

Landscaping in Gunalda

You end up with a yard that works. Level, usable ground where there was a slope. A retaining wall that holds the bank instead of creeping forward every year. Water that leaves the property instead of pooling against the house. Paths, slabs or a driveway that take a car and a wheelbarrow without cracking up. Garden beds with soil that plants will actually grow in, edges that hold their line, and turf laid on a prepared base rather than dropped onto whatever was already there.

Because we do the retaining, concreting, fencing and excavation ourselves, the hard parts of a landscape aren’t handed to someone else’s schedule. One crew, one quote, one person to ask.

How it works

We come out and walk the site with you, measure up, and look at the things that decide the job — fall across the ground, where water goes, how much room there is to get a machine in, and where services run.

Then you get a written quote with the scope spelled out, so you can see what’s included before you commit. If something needs a design or an approval before it can be built, we’ll tell you at that point, not halfway through.

On site the order is usually the same: clear and set out, earthworks and excavation, drainage, then the structural work — walls, footings, slabs, fencing. Soft landscaping goes in last, once the heavy machinery is finished and won’t be driving back over it. Surfaces, soil, planting and turf.

At handover we walk it with you and tell you what the new planting and turf need for the first few weeks while it establishes.

What it costs

We quote per job, after seeing the site, and the number holds unless you change the scope.

What moves the price: how much soil has to be cut, filled or carted away; whether a machine can get in or the work has to be done by hand; the height of any retaining and what it’s holding back; drainage; the materials you choose for surfaces and walls; and how much area gets planted or turfed. Access is the one that surprises people most — a tight side gate can cost more in labour than the materials do.

If the budget is fixed, say so early. It’s usually possible to stage a job so the structural work goes in first and the planting follows later.

Getting started

Call or send through a message with a rough description of the site and a couple of photos if you have them. We’ll arrange a time to come out to the property, measure up, and get you a written quote with the scope set out. No charge for the visit, and no obligation once you’ve got the price.

Common questions

Do you handle the excavation and retaining too, or just the garden?

Both. Excavation, retaining walls, concreting and fencing are done by our own crew, so the earthworks and the structural work aren’t subcontracted out to another schedule.

Do I need to be home when you quote?

It helps. We walk the site with you so we can look at the fall, drainage and machine access, and so the quoted scope matches what you actually want.

When does the planting go in?

Last. Earthworks, drainage and structural work come first, then surfaces and soil, then planting and turf — so machinery isn’t driving back over finished beds and lawn.

Can the work be split into stages?

Yes. A common approach is to build the structural parts first — retaining, drainage, slabs or paths — and come back for the planting and turf later.
